Qatar LNG Expansion
The North Field expansion and the downstream capital cascade.
Qatar is executing the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) expansion in history (North Field East and North Field South). This will increase capacity from 77 million tons per annum (mtpa) to 126 mtpa by 2027.
The US EPC Nexus
Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts for the expansion are heavily weighted toward US and Western European firms, given the specific cryogenic technology and scale required. This creates massive dollar-denominated cash flows back to US engineering hubs (e.g., Houston).
Sovereign Reinvestment
The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) will recycle the massive surplus generated by this expansion. Historically focused on European real estate, QIA's current mandate is pivoting sharply toward US technology, healthcare, and energy transition assets to diversify away from hydrocarbons.
